Lyme Disease
97% of reported cases of Lyme disease are in Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia. Many cases go unreported due to the tick bite not being noticed and the lack of the classic “Bull’s Eye”. Many of these cases become misdiagnosed some months or even years later.
An acute case of Lyme disease consists of symptoms that develop within days or weeks of a tick bite. A chronic case occurs when Lyme makes its way deep into the body and keeps recurring, possibly with periods of remission.
The early phase of Lyme disease generally occurs within 3 to 30 days after a tick bite and symptoms may include:
- Fever
- Chills
- Throbbing headache
- Noticeable fatigue
- Numbness and tingling
- Muscle and joint aches
- Swollen lymph nodes
- Facial or Bell’s palsy
- “Bull’s-Eye Rash” This is the most well known symptom of the acute stage of Lyme Disease.
Because Lyme disease has the ability to mimic numerous other illnesses, it is not uncommon for physicians to overlook Lyme disease and attribute these symptoms to something else. Most often, Lyme disease has been misdiagnosed as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, polymyalgia rheumatica, multiple sclerosis, mononucleosis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and many other disorders.
People suffering from chronic Lyme disease can look clinically different, and may present with symptoms such as:
- Fatigue
- Abdominal pain and bowel changes
- Memory loss
- Numbness or tingling of extremities
- Burning sensations, especially in the hands or feet
- “Wandering” joint or muscle pain
- Dizziness
- Sleep disturbances
- Balance or coordination problems
If you, someone you know or even your pet has been diagnosed with Lyme disease, or if you feel you may have been misdiagnosed, why wait any longer?

In line with the principles of naturopathic medicine, several herbal protocols have been used to treat both acute and chronic Lyme disease. I have found that herbs are generally better tolerated than antibiotics and come with fewer adverse side effects.
The 1 herbal protocol of which I have used most successfully in my clinical practice is Stephen Buhner Protocol combined with a modified Homeopathic approach. Because of the success rate with this protocol, I am now a recommended “Lyme Disease Consultant”.
This potent herbal protocol for treating Lyme, which has an amazing success rate: “75% of those who use the protocol as a core treatment regimen, along with other herbs and supplements as symptoms dictate, have not had a Lyme relapse .”
